Transfer eSIM From Android to iPhone: Steps & Limits

Table of Contents

You can transfer an eSIM from Android to iPhone through the phones’ settings when the carrier and both devices support it. Otherwise, use your carrier’s activation process. Keep the Android phone available until the new service works. Moving photos and apps is a separate job from getting your phone number connected.

This guide focuses on U.S. phone service, using official instructions checked November 4, 2026. It is not a device test. Carrier approval, the exact phone model and installed software matter more than the fact that both phones have an eSIM setting.

Check which transfer you are trying to do

Apple’s Android-to-iPhone eSIM instructions and Android data-migration guide describe different requirements:

Your taskWhat to check
Transfer the cellular line directly between phonesiPhone 11 series or newer with iOS 26 or later; a compatible Android 16 or later phone; supported carrier; WiFi and Bluetooth enabled
Move apps and data without Move to iOSA compatible Android 17 or later version and manufacturer support for that separate setup workflow
Activate through the carrier insteadThe provider’s supported app, Carrier Activation or QR-code process for the new iPhone

Apple’s U.S. direct-transfer list names AT&T, Cricket, FirstNet, T-Mobile, Verizon and Xfinity Mobile. Check your particular provider and device; a shared parent network is not proof that another brand uses the same transfer method.

Also check the iPhone’s carrier lock before using a different provider. Under Settings, General and About, Apple’s unlocking guide says No SIM restrictions means it is unlocked. Only the carrier can unlock it. A pairing code cannot remove that restriction.

Use the direct transfer option when supported

  1. On the iPhone, open Settings and Cellular. Choose Set Up Cellular or Add eSIM, then Transfer from Android.
  2. Scan the iPhone’s QR code with the Android camera.
  3. On Android, select the intended phone number and confirm Transfer. Follow any primary-eSIM prompt and finish the onscreen process.
  4. Make a normal call from the iPhone. Contact the carrier if it fails.

If scanning fails, use Other Options. Apple’s manual route uses Android Settings, Google services, All services, Pair with iPhone or iPad, and Transfer eSIM, followed by the displayed session ID and pairing code.

These codes belong between your devices, not in a public comment or a screenshot sent to an unsolicited helper. Keep both phones in front of you so you can read which number you are approving. When the transfer completes, the Android SIM deactivates; this does not keep the same line active on both phones.

If the option is missing, use the carrier’s device-switch route

A missing direct-transfer option is a reason to check eligibility, not to buy another subscription immediately. Apple’s general eSIM setup guide describes carrier-assigned activation, QR codes and supported carrier apps or links. Tell the provider that you are replacing the phone while keeping your existing service. Ask which method applies to that line.

For example, Visible’s current device-switch instructions use the Visible app on the phone you intend to keep: Dashboard, Device details, SIM Transfer, then A new phone. Its process asks for the new device’s IMEI and account verification through email or the phone number. Check compatibility, update the phone and app, charge the battery and connect to WiFi first. Use only the official app or support channel for private identifiers.

If the Android phone is broken, lost or already traded in, say that at the start of the support conversation. You cannot approve a prompt on a phone you no longer have. Ask about the provider’s account-verification and replacement-eSIM process instead of repeatedly selecting a nearby-phone method.

Changing phones and changing carriers are different requests. Visible’s number-porting guide, for instance, requires the old service to remain active and uses the previous account’s transfer information. Do not cancel a working line first or start another port simply because the replacement phone has not connected yet.

Keep data migration separate from the mobile line

Apple’s current Move to iOS guide distinguishes Transfer with App from Transfer without App. The latter needs a compatible Android 17 or later version; the Android 16 baseline in the eSIM-only guide does not establish eligibility for this broader migration. Check the manufacturer’s support before planning around an app-free move.

If you already finished iPhone setup, Apple describes erasing and starting again for its setup-based app migration, or moving content manually if you do not want to erase. That is not a requirement to erase the iPhone just to try the separate eSIM transfer in Settings. Back up important content and decide which data you still need before considering any reset.

Check the two results separately. Can you find the contacts, photos or files you expected? Can the iPhone make a cellular call? One successful check does not answer the other. A gallery full of photos does not confirm a working mobile number, and a working number does not confirm that every app or file moved.

Verify service before wiping or handing over a phone

Apple’s eSIM removal guidance says not to erase an iPhone eSIM for troubleshooting unless the carrier directs it. An erased eSIM can require a replacement, and deleting it does not cancel the subscription. Do not remove the newly installed line just to clear an unfamiliar status message.

  • Make and receive an ordinary call if your plan includes calling.
  • Check carrier text messaging separately from internet messaging apps.
  • If a small amount of mobile data is included and affordable, briefly turn WiFi off, open a familiar page, then restore WiFi.
  • Confirm that the expected line is selected, especially if the iPhone already holds another plan.

If the line appears but is still pending, use our iPhone eSIM activation checks for that different stage. If you are about to travel, review the roaming and data-line settings after the switch. Keep the old phone and your support reference available until you have confirmed the result you need.
